Harbour City Gardens can prepare and lay turf to give you that perfect piece of lawn you have always wanted!
You may choose to use our waterless and weed free lawn care program, we can transform your old grass into lush green lawn, perfect for your family to enjoy.
Perhaps you didn’t know that over 190 different weeds, 45 lawn insects and 30 diseases can damage your grass?
Some turf varieties we install are:
Conquest Couch - which is extremely popular turf in Victoria but can be used successfully in Sydney. It is reasonable drought and heat resistant. Excellent colour and wearability but fairs poorly in the shade.
Kikuyu – very popular and extremely cheap, I am generally installing this lawn at under ten bucks a square meter which is extremely price competitive. It doesn’t use a lot of water and has nice colour and wear however it doesn’t perform well in the shade and tends to brown off in winter. It grows very rapidly and has a broad leaf.
Matilda Buffalo – The ultimate in quality I personally like this turf it wears very well and looks gorgeous cut at about 3 to 5cm. It grows nicely in the shade such as under a tree. It is a little more to buy but well worth the price difference. It isn’t too thirsty and has good colour all year. Matilda tends to grow rocky or clay soils where other lawn types will not.
Sir Walter Buffalo – Is a slightly softer version of Matilda Buffalo very low maintained and shade tolerant.
Preparing your site for lawn or turf.
There is actually a bit of work for Harbour City Gardens before we lay your new lawn there are a few steps we need to follow for the turf to reach its full potential.
Firstly, we use a rotary-hoe to aerate the soil and remove all existing grasses, without the use of pesticides or chemicals. Then we asses the soil to determine if the turf can live directly on the existing ground or if you need a turf underlay. I work to approximately 1 tonne of soil per 10 square meters which will give you 30mm to 60mm in depth.
When I lay your turf I will normally try to start with a straight line along your longest edge, normally a boundary or driveway.
As Sydney’s premier turf company when we hit an obstacle we will cut around the obstacle and continue in a straight line.
Then I flatten your lawn using a roller. I will also water the lawn in and kindly ask you to stay off it for a couple of days. I return a week later to check the roots are taking.
Now for the maintenance your new turf should be mowed about two weeks depending on the season. On the first mow only trim the grass making sure not to scalp your new lawn.
I recommend that you fertilise the lawn about four times a year.
